Choosing a layout
| Layout | Good for |
|---|---|
| 2 panels | A big reveal or a before and after. |
| 3 rows | Calm, steady pacing; one beat per row. |
| 3 with a wide bottom | Two small set-up panels, then the payoff. |
| 4 grid | Conversations and back-and-forth. |
| 4 rows (yonkoma) | Four-panel gag strips, read top to bottom. |
| 5 mixed | Action pages with one establishing shot. |
| 6 grid | Fast dialogue or many small moments. |
| Webtoon strip | Scrolling comics: space between panels sets the rhythm. |
Gutters, borders and margins
- Gutter is the white space between panels. Wider gutters slow the reader down; thin ones speed things up.
- Border is the panel outline. Thick borders feel bold; thin ones feel light.
- Margin is the space around the page. Printers need some margin, so keep at least the default for printing.
Right to left or left to right?
Pick "Manga" to number panels from right to left, the Japanese way, or "Comic or manhwa" for left to right. The layout mirrors, so the first panel always sits where a reader starts. Our panel reading guide shows both on a real sample page.
Printing
The PDF is one A4 page with the layout centred. Print it at 100% or "actual size" so the margins stay right. Nothing is uploaded; the PDF is made in your browser.
Questions
How many panels should a manga page have?
Most manga pages have four to six panels. Fewer, larger panels slow the story down for big moments; more panels speed it up.
Can I print the template?
Yes. Download the A4 PDF and print it at actual size.
Why are the numbers on the right?
Manga is read right to left, so the first panel is at the top right. Switch to left to right for comics and most manhwa.
Is there a webtoon template?
Yes. Choose the webtoon strip size for a tall vertical layout with space between panels.
Do I need an account?
No. The template maker runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
