Manga translator apps and tools compared

Manga translators fall into three groups.

Updated October 25, 2026 · 3 min read

Quick answer

Phone and tablet apps translate pages you have: Mangit (iPhone and Android) redraws a screenshot or image with your language in the bubbles, IchigoReader translates images, PDFs and ZIP files on iPhone, and Mangra is a reader with built-in translation on Apple devices. Browser tools translate images on websites: Torii, Immersive Translate and Scan Translator. Cotrans is a userscript and web upload tool for a few art sites. Each fits a different way of reading, so choose by where your pages are.

Every fact about another product comes from its own store listing or website, checked on 25 October 2026. Sources are listed at the end. We don't show ratings or prices, and we don't rank the tools.

Choose them if...

  • IchigoReader: you have whole chapters as PDF or ZIP files on an iPhone and want to try before you pay.
  • Mangra: you keep chapter files on Apple devices and want translation that works offline.
  • Torii: you read in a browser and want to edit the translated page yourself.
  • Immersive Translate: you want one translator for websites, PDFs and videos, with comics as a side feature.
  • Scan Translator: you read in a desktop browser and want a few translations to start.
  • Cotrans: you browse those art sites on a computer and already use userscripts.
  • Mangit: your pages are screenshots on your phone and you want the same page back in your language, on iPhone or Android.

Where Mangit is weaker

  • No free tier. Mangit has no free trial and no pages at no cost; the app shows the price before you pay. Several tools above have a free option.
  • One image at a time. Mangit doesn't batch a whole chapter in one go; PDF and CBZ chapters are translated page by page in Library.
  • No browser extension. Mangit doesn't translate images on websites as you scroll; you take a screenshot first.
  • No editor. You can't move or rewrite the translated text inside Mangit.
  • Needs a connection. Pages are translated in the cloud, so Mangit doesn't work offline.

Not compared here

Sugoi Translator is often mentioned as an offline translator for computers. We couldn't find an official product page to check its features against, so we don't describe it.
