How scoring works
- 100 points for every right answer.
- Up to 120 bonus points for answering fast: 10 for every second left on the timer.
- Streak bonus: 20 extra points for each answer in a row after the first. Three in a row plays a little fanfare.
- Your best score is remembered on this device only.

How to get better
Most manga sound effects follow patterns. A small ッ at the end makes a sound short and sharp, a long ー stretches it, and repeating a sound means it keeps going. Korean and Chinese sound effects follow their own scripts. Our manga sound effects dictionary lists every sound in this quiz with its meaning, so study there and come back for a higher score.
Challenge a friend
After a round, tap Challenge a friend to share a link. Your friend gets the same ten sound effects in the same order and sees your score to beat, and the end screen tells you both who won. The link holds only the round and the score, nothing about you. For one shared puzzle a day, try the daily SFX challenge.
Sound and motion
The quiz plays short sounds made in your browser. Turn them off with the sound button; your choice is remembered on this device. If your device is set to reduce motion, the quiz skips the bounce and shake effects.
Questions
How many questions are in the manga SFX quiz?
Ten per round, picked at random from over 100 sound effects. Every round is different, unless a friend sent you a challenge link.
Can I play only Korean or Chinese sound effects?
Yes. Pick Japanese, Korean or Chinese before you start, or play all three mixed.
Is my score saved?
Your best score is kept in this browser only. Nothing is sent to us.
Where can I learn the answers?
Every sound effect in the quiz is in our manga sound effects dictionary, with how it is read and what it means.
Can I turn the sound off?
Yes. Tap the sound button; the quiz remembers your choice on this device.
How does Challenge a friend work?
It makes a link to the same ten questions with your score in it. Your friend plays the same round and sees who scored more. No names or personal data are in the link.
